Topic: Computer  Systems Safety USe

Introduction

The session aimed to Introduce the learners to computer systems safety use and development. Aso the session aimed to ensure that the students understand the consequences of the lack of safe use of computer systems and the responsibility they have as aspiring IT professionals in ensuring the safe use of computer systems.

Session Summary

The session started off with a short icebreaker where the students were able to introduce themselves. Madam Leah Mbula then discussed computer safety categories and the principles and practices of computer safety. She also discussed the importance of implementing safety-centric design, energy efficiency, material selection, user education and awareness,  collaboration, and industry standards(in the safe use of computer systems) when developing computer systems. They were also able to relate the above-listed concepts to their proposed solutions. The question they answered was:  What computer safety and environmental concerns have you considered in your proposed project?

They then had a breakout session where in groups they discussed:

  • Why is data security important in computer safety?
  • What are the responsible methods of disposing of computer equipment?
  • The importance of proper disposal
  • How ergonomics can be promoted in the computer system to ensure safety and comfort?
  • What is green computing and how it promotes sustainability in computer usage?

NB: The students were able to grade each other’s presentations and content which encouraged peer learning

  • Identification of computer system  safety issues
  • Application  of computer safety principles  in computer systems
